Vietnam’s economy experienced moderate growth in H1 2024, with GDP expanding by approximately 4.5%. This growth was driven by strong performance in the services and industrial sectors. Although hindered by global economic uncertainties, tighter monetary conditions, and disruptions in the global supply chain, the trade sector showed resilience, specifically in electronics, textiles, and agricultural products. FDI inflow also remained robust at USD 15 billion over 6 months, with investors diversifying their supply chains away from China in sectors such as manufacturing, real estate, and technology.
Looking to H2 2024, the government is expected to continue its reform agenda with aims to improve the business environment, enhancing infrastructure, and fostering innovation. New policies are projected to boost growth in manufacturing, green energy, digital transformation, and more; a prime example is the continued VAT incentive (VAT is reduced to 8% for goods and services subject to 10% VAT).
